We received a 93 point score for this coffee in April of 2017 from Coffee Review!
Aromas of blackstrap molasses and fresh cut blond tobacco with brilliant, juicy flavors ranging from lime zest, lemonade, and white grape to saturated liquor flavors of creamy fudge and spicy tones of Grains of Paradise. This super clean coffee exhibits assertive acidity with a palate coating viscosity. Its overarching character is reminiscent of a deeply structured Chardonnay.
This coffee is named after the hill it grew upon in Kayanza, Burundi. Ntarambo (the “N” is silent) is one of seven hills that surrounds Jean-Clement’s award winning Mpanga Washing Station. Jean-Clemente built this washing station in 2008 and he currently represents a group of approximately 3,400 growers from the surrounding hills while managing all of the processing at Mpanga. In 2014, two of his micro-lots placed 1st and 3rd in the Burundi Cup of Excellence.
Through the good fortune of our connection to Jeanine Niyonzima, we have been able to secure this ten bag micro-lot in its entirety. Jeanine is first generation Burundian. She has devoted her life’s work to fighting poverty, educating youth and providing hope through building long-term social, educational and economic programs in the genocide ravaged nation of Burundi. You can learn more about the invaluable work that Jeanine does through the organization that she founded called Burundi Friends International.
After repose, we seal this coffee in Grain-Pro barrier packaging at origin in Burundi and then send on its way to our Roastery where we preserve the green coffee under hermetic seal until it is roasted as part of our Barrington Green Seal Program.Learn more about Barrington Coffee.
