Q: Fresh Roasted...does it really matter?
A: There’s a significant difference in taste between beans roasted a few days ago and those roasted last month or even months ago. Taking a look at the consume-by date on a bag of coffee at the supermarket might just send you into shock. Vacuum packing and one-way valves only do so much. Technology can’t improve freshness. Coffee is at its best when made from beans roasted no more than two weeks ago.
Q: Why do you recommend whole bean (and not ground) coffee?
A: In keeping with our commitment to provide you with the best coffee experience possible, we offer only whole bean coffee. Oxygen is the enemy of fresh coffee as it compromises the longevity and quality of the coffee. Whole bean coffee can stay fresh for 10-14 days where ground coffee only stays fresh for about 30 minutes (more surface area for the harmful oxygen to make contact with coffee particles). In fact, 90% of the C02 that helps transport coffee oils into your cup evaporate within 60 seconds of grinding. If you want the best possible tasting coffee you must grind it right before brewing.
Q: What if I don't have a grinder?
A: We strongly recommend purchasing a home coffee grinder. Once you taste the difference you will wonder why you did not grind at home sooner. Seriously. A conical burr grinder is the best choice as it gives you very consistent grind. For the budget conscious a blade grinder is a good place to start although the grind is not as consistent and therefore the coffee is not as consistent. Grinding right before brewing is the quickest way to improve your coffee experience.
Q: How long will it take for the coffee to get to me?
A: All coffee is roasted to order and will be shipped within two business days of placing your order. From there delivery to your home or office is usually 1 to 3 days from pick-up via USPS Priority Mail. USPS delivers six days a week, including Saturday!
Q: If coffee goes stale within 10-14 days, and it takes 2-3 days to get to me, is the coffee staling while it is in transit to my home or business?
A: Actually, no! After coffee is roasted, it does something called degassing for about 72 hours. This is a reaction the beans have to being roasted and during this time frame coffee beans need to "rest" - if you tried using the beans during the first 72 hours or so to make coffee, your cup of joe would actually taste kind of flat. Fresh roasted coffee reaches its peak around day 4, which is right when it will arrive at your door.
Q: How often should I order coffee?
A: First, buy only what you will use within the next 2 weeks and reorder as necessary. Buy weekly and consume daily. You'll thank me later.
Q: How much do you charge for shipping?
A: We charge a flat rate of $5.99 shipping per roaster. During checkout extra shipping charges may appear for additional items. Flat rate shipping per roaster will be applied during order processing. Order multiple bags and save money!
Q: Do you have any shipping location restrictions?
A: We currently only ship within the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Q: What size are your bags of coffee?
A: We offer our coffee in sizes of 12 ounces and 5 pounds. For the home coffee drinker order as many 12 ounce bags as you will need for the next two weeks and reorder as necessary.
